General MEETINGS

We gather at 7pm on the 4th Thursday of most months. Topics related to genealogy are presented. Free and open to the public.  Please register via the link below:


NEWSLETTER

A monthly newsletter is available on the MCGS website.  Members receive an email each time a newsletter is published.

Recurring topics include a Marin Mystery Location, '100 Years Ago in Marin' and articles submitted by our Members regarding their brick walls, surprising findings and lessons learned.  


SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

DNA Group  

Meets at 7pm on the 3rd Thursday of most months. Genetic genealogy is explored, and all experience levels are welcome... bring your questions!  See our DNA Group Page for more information and registration.


Writing Group  

Meets at 4pm on the 1st or 2nd Monday of most months. Laurel Hilton offers monthly assignments and opportunities for review and sharing. See our Writing Group Page for more information and registration.


Research Trips

Join us for trips to genealogy libraries, including the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, the Sutro Library at San Francisco State University, and the California Genealogical Society Library in Oakland.  On hold due to COVID.

Kin Tracer

Marin County Records  

Indexes of various Marin County vital records, military records, probate files, wills and other documents have been compiled and are searchable by all. Some records are available as a series of files to Members only.  Visit our Marin County Records Page for more details.


Publications

Early Marin County Records from 1857-1910 are available in book form and may be purchased online.

Computer Room

Computers are available for internet research. Free access to premium websites includes Ancestry.com, Fold3, FindMyPast, and more.



Film Reader Room

Contains microfilm/microfiche readers for use with films obtained originally from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.  This room also houses the MCGS collection of Marin County and California books and periodicals.
